Gym Etiquette by Janette Cardy

I was speaking about this to a group of ladies before a class the other day and one lady said it sounds good but I don’t actually know what it is and I get nervous that I am offending people in the gym. This made me think. Why should we just assume people know what to do.

So here are my top tips to help you to enjoy your workout and to share the gym space particularly in the busy periods such as January!

  • Take a Towel and wipe down your kit after use.
  • Resting between sets is obviously needed but if someone wants to jump on to share a machine with you, then let this happen.
  • Stay off your phone.
  • Put your kit away. A fellow PT was telling me the other day he saw someone leave 6 sets of weights out and at the end of his session just left them!! This is not acceptable!
  • Respect personal space.
  • If you are planning a long run or watt bike session, then maybe

speak to the gym staff and ask if its ok.

  • Don’t wear muddy trainers in the gym.

  • Always wear a top!

  • Don’t judge others.

  • Enjoy your workout.
